An Artist’s Blog About Drawing, Painting And Many Other Things From The Heart
Hi and welcome to my blog. My name is Lori E. Alexander and I am a visual artist, gardener, animal lover, people lover and someone who occasionally travels. I can find things at home or during travels that can inspire me to want to express myself through painting, drawing and sometimes sculpture. I also enjoy seeing how other people creatively express themselves.
As a child my family and I lived in Southwest Louisiana. I loved being outdoors whether in the car for road trips through the woodlands, prairie, coastal marsh and the Gulf coast. There were many things and sights to inspire an artist, like cattle drives, wild turkeys and free range domestic pigs and cattle. I loved seeing how wind could shape a tree and how the water could shape the coast.
Later as a youth my family moved to Southeast Louisiana where I had many opportunities to travel the local rivers and swamps. Here the animals were equally as abundant and interesting and the trees and plants a little different from the coast. I found new inspiration for paintings, drawings and photographs.
My academic background is varied from university studies, workshops with other fine artists whose work I admire, to my individual studies and professional teaching workshops. As a teaching artist on The Greater Baton Rouge Arts Council Artist Roster I have worked with many children in schools, workshops and summer camps for the past twelve years.
I have also worked for many years as a graphic artist in a commercial type house where we produced work for private and state agencies and individuals. I also worked as a production artist for my family’s newspaper where I learned to change the way I did things as technology changed. I have enjoyed the coming of the computer age.
Though traveling does offer a lot of inspiration I think the people who I have been surrounded by or have come and gone through my life have had influence on my art. I love to listen to stories told by family and friends of their own adventures. I love to hear laughter after a shared memory. I believe all of these things together have helped shape the artist that I am today.
